Oakland’s police chief is making some dire claims about what his force will and will not respond to if layoffs go as planned.

Chief Anthony Batts listed exactly 44 situations that his officers will no longer respond to and they include grand theft, burglary, car wrecks, identity theft and vandalism. He says if you live and Oakland and one of the above happens to you, you need to let police know on-line.

Some 80 officers were to be let go at midnight last night if a last-minute deal was not reached. That’s about ten percent of the work force.

“I came her e to build an organization, not downsize one,” said Batts, who was given the top job in October.

Two Oakland City Council members have come under scrutiny in an investigation into the downtown protests that followed the verdict in the Johnannes Meshserle case last week, a police spokesman said today. Councilwomen Jean Quan and Rebecca Kaplan were among the group of demonstrators who gathered near 14th Street and Broadway Thursday night after the former BART police officer was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of Oscar Grant III on Jan. 1, 2009.Nearly 1,000 people gathered in downtown Oakland that evening, 78 of whom were arrested when the protest turned violent. Anarchists and other rioters smashed windows, looted stores, busted down doors and sprayed graffiti on storefronts.Police Officer Jeff Thomason said investigators are “looking at pictures, video, and officers’ supplemental (reports)” of the protests, and said the number of arrests is likely to rise in the coming days and weeks.

SACRAMENTO – Working with local law enforcement, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today launched version 2.0 of its online parolee database that provides police and sheriff’s deputies faster and more thorough access to offender information, including photos and criminal background.

“The delivery of timely and accurate information is always key in developing positive partnerships and assists all law enforcement agencies to protect public safety,” said CDCR Secretary Matthew L. Cate. “This new LEADS system developed by CDCR parole will provide local law enforcement with detailed information about parolees in their communities.”

“I want to personally thank all participating local law enforcement agencies in working with us to better protect the public by helping to improve this tool to be more precise and user-friendly.”

The enhanced tool, called the Parole Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS 2.0), was developed in partnership by the CDCR Division of Adult Parole Operations and Enterprise Information Services, and features a number of improvements including easier navigation, similar to an e-commerce website.

Latley; we got a few things going on the biggest is Kevin. He came to us from Chino prison about a mth ago and has been trying to get a transfer to NY ever sence. Kevin lives with us and has been a great assest to the family. He’s a great father a good freind and a kind soul. My wife and Ican’t understand why he’s even on parole. Here in California we are facing seriuos budget cuts and parole has been kicking out inmates by force of the feds some without parole. But not Kevin. So stick around and see what happens with Kevin, there will be a video posted on this home page in the next day or 2.

Slowly but surly the new theme and lay out for the new site will be done very soon. Maybe 2 weeks. I see some of you from facebook and wanna thank you personally for joining. Some of you are sponsors who have a friend or loved one inside and I just want to tell you that it’s a great thing your doing by posting their profiles. Maybe one day in the future the D.O.C. will figure a way out for supervised low access internet use so they can job search and post resumes prior to release. Until than it’s up to people like you and the others that visit this site to do it.

We are working on a couple new things we’d like to introduce along with the updated site so please stay tuned!
